Starting to see some new bikes at the tracks so thought it might be interesting to see how the new owners like what they bought. We heard from a 450 kx owner and so far so good, but needs HELP with Susp. told him about EVO. Rode 250 kx but are more comfy on red. Taking 450 red bike to woodland Sunday after swaping out our normal stuff,BUT from the first impressions at out track it was VERY SMOOTH in the motor compared w/09,less noise with stock ex. A few weeks later and a little time on new bike.Replacing plastic already,No not a fall just broke Rad Schroud while riding? Nothing changed since new, motor very smoooth. BAD THINGS Clutch moves a LOT as to where it engages while ridding. Hinson soon. No hot weather but on a nice day mid 80s did notice overheating, switch to Engine Ice?? Noticable Quiter than last year,we changed back and forth with PC exaust, quiet is nice!JR Enjoy Racing & Riding for Fun! Be a Good Sportsmen (or women)!

Love/Hate relationship with this bike! Stupid stuff like Ex.Sys. won't interchange with 09 makes it costly. Went through a clutch in the first month, our 09 still has the orig.!BAD CLUTCH,maybe worst we have had with Honda! Good news is just put in the new style Hinson Single Spring and have lots of "HOPE" it will solve the clutch issue. SAD to buy a $8000 bike and "HAVE" to fix a inherent problem! Thanks MX Family. Appreciate details and yer thoughts. I'm wondering what changed twix 09 and 11 in red clutching design? "Hinson Single Spring" - Q: Are we talking about a cupped-washer design?

http://www.vitalmx.com/videos/...-Clutch,1174/GuyB,64 In 2010 Honda changed the Crank/Rod life span from 80-100hrs to 35hrs on many of their CRF250's and the new coated clutch baskets last about as long. 2010_Honda_017a.JPG (38 KB, 61 downloads) Honda Rod

This bike was Totally Stock minus a after market piston installed at 20hrs. I could have used it again, it looked like new. Our other 250 currently has 25hrs with a 14.5:1 piston, ported head, radical cam and the mapping has been changed. Hope to get an after market crank or rod before it explodes. 2010_Honda_011.JPG (47 KB, 79 downloads) Honda case

Workman Watched the clip from L28?,like I told other riders hard to explane yet easy to see how it works. Hinson has already updated "How" they make this product, our center hub is different.GREAT to see a made in the USA company doing well. I make things and always look at what other shops do,impressed with quality of this unit. MY bigest gripe is that after one month we had to replace the clutch, not from lots of use(look out side) ,not from abuse, not from bad oil, basic bad flaw in a new product. Honda and most builders want to sell you a new improved product, yet when things are not right they want to dodge the relacement cost, yet the bike cost goes up every year! L28? Trying a Falicon crank in our 250. LOOKS REAL PRETTY,but we have had " pretty" ported heads that were worse then stock, could be a few weeks befor I can tell how we feel about this crank. Turn-around time was exelent, cost?,how well it works ???! We have not had a crank problem with Honda 09-10 models, but we try to limit hours on race bikes by loading hours on practice bikes.JR Enjoy Racing & Riding for Fun! I can see the problem in the photo. The gears are gold plated.!

So that must be why we have to pay $8000 for a new bike now.

Honda woes continue. Went to Clark Co. in hopes of seeing how great the clutch would work out. First practice kid does one lap ,sits alongside track.Back at pit find out our 2011 FI 450 has developed a BOG!,450 bog has not been a problem for us!! Obvious the clutch did not create this problem,we did install a new exaust?,but thinking might be something else.Good news CLUTCH WORKED GREAT for the one lap he rode around the track! Read the injury report on CC and might understand why this problem is no big deal!JR Enjoy Racing & Riding for Fun! Be a Good Sportsmen (or women)!

Spent today checking out the 450 problem,ARGHHH! Put back on stock Ex,really couldn't see that being the problem! After reinstall bike wouldn't start,ARGHH! This bike is gettin anoying,450 Hondas do not BOG,and new Hondas ALWAYS start!! Start checking and find a bad spark plug??whats up with that!! This bike has maybe 3 hours on it and we have had to replace all the clutch plates, now the $20 or so overpriced plug, add in the SS Hinson the Ti PC exaust, this is starting out to become a expensive practice bike.Next time you see me REMIND me how pro-Honda a guy I am!! I have a 2010 yz450f. So far the best bike I have ever owned. I have about 50hrs so far and the only problems I have had is wearing out grips, tires, chain and sprockets, 2 many oil changes to count. But no mechanical or set-up issues. The suspension was set-up by Dan @ EVO and Was much improved as I am over weight for factory setings. I have DR.D exaust and am going to change that out for the yosh which seems to have better topend #'s which is the only place I would like more power.

Thanks MX Family, The "Hinson Single Spring" is a cupped-washed design just larger and machined diff than I'm used to. The hard anodized clutch basket jumped out and grabbed me but then again for Hinson who'd expect anything less. The diameter and depth (which explains machined grooves width) of washer makes me wonder ... I'm replacing 4x springs with 12x springs (fingers) but each Hinson finger is placed more inbound than stock 4x compression spring. I'd $buy the anodizing stuff, not had a prob with 09 4x spring but would prefer 6x spring pattern on stock Honda basket. That's just me and how I roll. Lately, this Holiday Season it's all about ... Ho-ho-ho

With new sparking thing we are testing out the funny clutch thingy. Feels just a little different, can feel it cam-over like in the Compound Bow tech.! Been to wet to ride here to SNOWY to ride over at Bend,so trying some more indoor riding but looking forward to outdoor to get final idea of how well our money was spent. SX season is comming fast so will put off the 450 stuff and get down to 250 mods, hope the 2011 accepts most/all the things we worked with on th 2010,FINALLY have kid ready to get off the 09 which he has a passion for compared to the 2010 wich turned into practice bike.?? JR When talking with Hinson they still had a 6 spring clutch as a option for Honda riders, but talked us into the single. Enjoy Racing & Riding for Fun! Be a Good Sportsmen (or women)!

Humm..."Feels just a little different, can feel it cam-over like in the Compound Bow" Makes sense in that the cupped washer design must slide (friction) against a plate overcoming angles (AB^2). Also explains $costs. I'm guessing one-cupped-washer costs less than 6x compression springs. Also explains the hard-anodize. Interesting very interesting. Many thanks and appreciation for description of "feel". I'm still on an 09 red wonder machine albeit parked for several months now. Twas wondering about next $purchase or even if should. Orange has sparked my interest but last Euro bike was a 1976 Maico Coffin-tank and it left an impression on my person ...NO not that way, Chassis stupid, Twas the best. Poorest cast wheel hubs I ever saw and motor shook itself right out of its steel frame. Super tight gearbox design with shifter "plate" vs "Japanese" drum. I'm still a believer in plates. She was a super sweet drifter-bike and could power slide and wheelie forever. Well for one year anyway.

Did our indoor testing at CC Thurs Am and SS Hinson worked ,,like a clutch should. After two practice sessions there was little or no change with the engagement point of the clutch. New PC pipe(copy of FMF mega bomb) worked well also.JR Enjoy Racing & Riding for Fun! Be a Good Sportsmen (or women)!

Race tested our Hinson at CC sat. 4 motos short maybe 5 min.motos but no change with engagement point. Still upset that I have to fix a problem with new bike, maybe I am becoming frugal in my old age? Bikes ran well, kid rode well ,equal life is good! JR One of Washington's fun riders to race with came down Joey Rumminer was down at CC Sat. Enjoy Racing & Riding for Fun!
