update: I cleaned somemore, put it back together, cleaned the tip of the AP injector, rigged up the gas tank on the bench and shot gas about 6ft... thinking thats pretty good? (wish i woulda known to check that before i cleaned it all up). Anyway, tomorrow if i can find a new diaphragm (or even if I don't) I should be able to get it back together and fire it up.

Ok... I put it back together and saw little improvement... I tried a couple different pilots (42 - 48 - 45) then moved the needle richer with little improvment on the bog (I think i am chasing my tail). Pulled it back out and broke the leak jet (55) taking it out... gonna stop by the shop and pick up a 50 (& 55)... Mad

Moderbiker... you must've had the QS3 cause i don't have a screw to adjust (wish i did now)

Wilcox... before I put it back I will try to see when it squirts but how do you adjust it (carb timing screw?)?

Currently the timing arm is tied (new) and I am still running my QS2, should i untie it or go back to stock acc pmp cover? I would tend to think that the cover wouldn't matter to much since I think the QS just allows for a better more consistant flow path...

EFI is sounding better everyday...

there is a adjustment screw by where you tied the arm together .... the proper way to check it .... for baseline when you have the carb on the bench you want to hold the carb upside down with the accel pump cover off the the carb so you can watch when the accel pump rod starts to move the rubber diaphragm.......... sometimes its way to early .... as in when you start to turn the thottle it already push the diaphragm most of the way .....if thats the case and you cant back it off with the screw enuf then you will have to file the metal button on the diaphragm..... that diaphragm you replaced can be tuneable item ....like on the 250f we used to find 450 diaphragms and run them cuz the button was like 20 thousands taller so you have the pump squirt sooner ...

if it is to late on the squirt then the screw should be able to adjust it .... its just when its way early you can sometimes not have eunf adjustment on the screw to get it where you want it ....

i like the accel pump rod to start to move the diaphragm as you raise the slide and move even with the slide as it is raised ..

IMHO i think the adjustable leak jet is a joke ... a money gimmick ..most people dont understand the basics of a FCR carb so all the adjustable leak jet does is masks another issue

we used the merge prototype before it went public on the supermoto race bikes and the only time i touched it to tune it was in denver ...so what does that say ?

IF you got more questions text aaron and get my number and shoot me a call if you need to ...

Got it fixed!!! Big Grin went back to stock setting with quick shot (plus the new acc timing tie mod) where it worked fine before and it still bogged... so we finally just pulled the tie mod off and set the screw back to the QS settings and wah-La! She ran perfectly!

obviously I was chasing my tail a bit with the jet settings with that tie mod... had a little epiphany after texting with 193 last night and decided to go back to basics since it ran great before. Thanks Ty! Anyway, it's all good now so I hope to skip out on Superbowl sunday and head to Toes... anyone going? and/or next wedn at Oakwood!

Thanks everyone for your tips and advice. It was all very much appreciated!!! Big Grin Big Grin

maybe carbs aren't all that bad afterall... those new 08 450's at the shop are still looking pretty good! Wink
