I know Taft Matherley and Bob Ryan "Motoplex Parts Mgr" have them installed.

If I wasn't so cheap, I'd have one, especially for any type of woods riding. Sean Collier ran one last year. Here is the test of the new version in MXA

By "so cheap" what do you mean and how does it work. Anybody got a blow-up of the inner workings, not the sales brochure stuff but how it really works and if I'm lucky an explanation of its performance range.

By so cheap I mean I don't have $800 to spend on a clutch. I know two guys that run one, both vets and they love it. The old style used ball bearings that would expand radially outward, via centrifugal force and create the drive. The new style uses weights on an arm. Basically it's a centrifugal clutch.

Ok Paul a pic is worth a thousand words but not the advert you posted.

I understand the the radial-force-thingy as well as centrifugal. To me (theoretically) former would seem to wear faster than latter but then if oils as good as the oil guys say I have to ask ....wa's up?

So...are parts wearing out faster in the old design therefore requiring a new one or is the whole concept just not worth (peeps-like-me-or-you) pursuing?

Its a neat idea, I bet one in a 450 on the trails would be a blast.

However...

There seems to be a lot less surface contact with the limited surface area on the mechanism.
It would seem to me that the thing would slip under decent amounts of power (not something I would want coming out of a corner and up a jump face). I dont see any real benefits in a racing application either... unless... well... you dont know how to use a clutch properly...

The new style was tough enough to race under national conditions. For MX they are great for starts and rolling into corners in a higher gear without fear of stalling. As far as I know they wear the same as a standard clutch.

when these first came out, i raced a yz250f with one (back then they were something like $1500) it didn't even make one moto before the ball-bearings were spread throughout the whole motor $$$$$$$$$$$ i sure hope they have improved. one thing i can say is they stand behind their crap, warrantied everything.

From what I have read about them is that you can adjust them so that there is no slipping say on a jump face and with the new exp design you can stil use the clutch as normal to build rpms. I sounds like a good product and got great reveiws from a couple mags. Although they might be bias. Im just interested in the no worries in stalling and being able to take my 450 in the woods.

They gave me one when they first came out, the problem was no lever tension. Then they gave me the second generation same problem. Its a great product for the woods but for racing I would go with a true slipper clutch. But who knows the new one might be great.

when you hit the wall you have to choose to go over or around, why do you keep running into it?

I rode with the new version a couple months ago.
it was great you could use the clutch normally (same feel too)or you could depend on the auto part.
In the woods to me it would be a must. for moto I think it could help

Ty maybe talk to 441 next time you see him at horn. He's always ran then for mx/ax an some desert racin. The one he has now was raced alot full season in the 09 cr450 then bought one of jeff alessi motoconcepts race bikes with like 65hp and stuffed the used auto clutch in it and has a ton of time on that now. Its the old ball bearing type. It appears to be bullit proof.

I have the EXP in my 09'CRF450R. I've been fairly impressed with it so far, but have been running into some stalling issues. The EXP was built for moto and WORCS guys in mind. Especially this last weekend at the AX. Ivester saw my frustration!! Spoke with Rekluse sending me some parts that should aleviate the stalling issue. Once I get it dialed in it will be killer. Oh yeah and have not had any issues with clutch fade or slipping.
