Trying to be prepared for SX this year. Wonder what guys like Crater do for riding up here/there or if we really need to spend two months down in the LA area to get ready. JR

I know I'm late to the game but gotta agree with Scot 284.

I say

#1 spend time on yer bike (I say mountain biking fer endurance) and pound out timing. If you can't hit a 12" landing pad then go home.

#2 Listen to those giving advise. Most are bad some are good. Learn the diff

Sorry peeps but that's how it is and oh-by-the-way better suck-up dem whoops. I've NEVER NEVER NEVER been a whoop guy ARGH!!!!!

Training, Timing, And Whoops peeps Training, Timing, And Whoops. If I knew how to do any of it I'd advise you all but alas not today nor for he past 3x decades I've ridden. More Arghs!!!

KW respects the PRO class for who they are and what they have done.

Respect peeps, respect.

If you want to get some training time on a local SX track. Alex Schifman (SP) has the best track around! When Lymburner is town, thats where we go to train. It is a great place to train! It has everything.
Its a big boy track though. Not for riders just out for a casual Sunday ride. Many riders have got wadded up there. Its SX!
If you want to get some training. We should plan 2 days durring the week and meet up.

Schiffman's track is sick...located near Belfair, WA. Maybe 30-45 minutes from Tacoma? Pretty out of the way of Portland though...

Kevin is actually my younger brother, you may have met my Dad at the races...but I'm sure we have exchanged hellos as well. Kevin is just training during the offseason, working at Kent Kawasaki, and in his senior year of high school.

Hey JR, Not to rain on Shiffmans place but the reality of this is very simple. If you want to make main events ride not only the tough tracks but ride with the riders that are going to be in the main events. If you go to LA and ride you get to ride tracks that are not all that SX but have some big sections, plus if you are down in LA you will meet people to ride with that normaly have SX tracks or in's.
You can stay here and try to ride in the rain and the wet.. that may help you at a few of the SX rounds if it rains but if you want to make main events (not just night shows) the bottom line is ride with the guys that ride that pace all the time... Oh and get good starts.. As my friend told my son when we were at Dodge it is all about the starts.. ( once you get through timed practice )

Mike,
I looked all over your site and couldn't find that video. Do you have it online still?
