I went out to Straddleline today and I must say it wasn't too bad. The layout is still the same but the condition of the track was pretty not bad. The jump faces were good, it was pretty rocky though. At noon they shut the track down for 1/2hour to groom and water. There are a few too many quads though. They do not seperate them out. I rode some trails also, I forgot how much fun trail riding is.

That is my problem, I played golf on Thursday and Friday, rode on Saturday and played golf on Sunday. The doc said I could start to work in activities, I think I went a bit fast :-)

Easing into it is a good plan. I started riding 6 weeks after I broke my sholder in Jan. and it still hurts!!! Not sure if its because I didnt rehab correctly or I am just old. Smile

Good to see that you are at least interested in riding again!

Just thought id let you know that straddline's last day of operation for good was today. The lady that runs it is trying to sell it to developers because supposedly the county cant afford to run it even tho they charge 20 to ride and they dont ever groom or maintain any of tracks.

Straddeline,

Photo is of young'n Jonathan Pike then #62 making monster leap over da Thurston-Co-ORV-Park-Doubles doubles (Straddeline) and post KW pull-over teaching him how (cause KW's taking photo). Irony is (as as time marches on the irony's continue to build) twas Pikes Dad that was standing just below him as I snapped the pic. The guy in the blue hat "looking-the-wrong-way" with arms crossed. Epic!

I remember finally pulling that jump on my 125 as a "beginner" at the last race for that year (????) All excited for the next year since I had it down. Showed up and it was GONE!!! I guess they figured Scary Barry finally did it so it was too easy.

Subject: Straddleline ORV Park Management

Dear Straddleline ORV Fans;

Today the Grays Harbor County Commissioners unanimously voted to approve a request for proposals from qualified persons or organizations to provide contract operations of the Straddleline ORV Park. A copy of the draft contract along with a request for other pertinent information will be available in a packet provided by our staff after Thursday of this week. This request will be posted on the County website, the ORV website as well as in local newspapers. It will also be provided to our e-mail list of ORV fans and our e-mail list of user organizations. Also approved today by the Commissioners, were the applications for two new grants from RCO for development of a 4X4 rock climbing and trail area; restroom renovations; resurfacing of the motocross track; and funding assistance for general operations and maintenance.

Almost two months ago, the Commissioners approved an application for persons interested in participating on the ORV Advisory Board and those applications were published. Only eight applications have been received to date. Should anyone like to fill out an application, please let me know.

If you drive near the park you will notice several site improvement including signs, fencing, tables, fire rings along with water and electricity to the camping sites.

I apologize for the long silence from me, but I didn’t want to say anything until I had something definitive to report on. I receive daily e-mails and comments from persons concerned about the park and we are working diligently to make this year’s season a successful one.

Terry L. Willis

Got the letter too. Not exactly sure how its going to be run now?? "Resurfacing?" Does that mean they are going to groom the track every once in a while, or chang the layout?

I think what they have agreed to is opening the door to new perhaps private management.
