Dear Motorsports Enthusiast and General Public,

We write this letter, for the purpose of letting you (the public) in on the legalities and concerns which ultimately have directly affected our latest and last attempt to salvage the farm as you know to be “Cadillac Ranch Motorsports Inc.”.

First, let us give you a brief history of the farm. The Farm itself is owned by Larry and Holly Mahan who have 3 sons (Bob, Damian, Jeff) and a daughter (Heather). It is a beautiful 400 acre dairy farm on the outskirts of Rainer, Washington. The Mahan’s have had, and still have a great tradition and a long history of family farming. Throughout, the years the Mahan’s have had trials and tribulations in their quest to continue their great tradition. For example, in 1985 Larry had a tragic accident while farming this land, by falling through a hay mower and losing his leg and nearly his life. This created a huge obstacle for the family and a threat of losing everything. At an incredibly young age, with no time to waste and a huge burden falling over the family, the boys and Heather were determined to maintain the relentless tasks and everyday activities of the demanding farm. As one can imagine, sacrifices of all sorts became the norm and the boys and Heather worked, out of necessity and survival. Consequently, this ONLY allowed for the oldest son (Bob) to have the time to attend Oregon State University, where he became educated while the others filled his shoes back home.

As we all know, the economic state of our country is crippling many; thus, alternatives (Cadillac Ranch Motorsports Inc.) have been taken as means of survival and a method to cope with the current uncontrollable economic devastation. As farmers, we have a compounding problem, being that the bottom of the dairy industry has nearly fallen out! Meaning, we as organic dairy farmers have lost are organic contract because the Wilcox Milk Industry went out of business. Thus, it forced us back into conventional dairy farming, where the prices were rock bottom and in survivable because of these current economic times, forcing the sale of our milking herd. By no means, did we lie down and die we continued fighting the good fight, by doing once again whatever necessary to save the farm. However, currently we are in the long process of raising replacement heifers, for the purpose of rebuilding our herd. More importantly, we discovered and figured we have the ingenuity and ability to create a place of family activities, all the while trying to rebuild our herd on the same land. Thus, we have provided the maximum potential for our land at the same time we are still using the land as it was intended. Therefore, we generously opened our home to the public, by providing a Motocross Track, and a 4x4 section with a variety of events, in hopes that we can rebuild our herd; more importantly, provide a much needed family and younger generation destination within our community, for many years to come.

It is important to understand, that within the 30 year life of our farm we have always allowed and will continue to allow riders, especially family and friends a place to ride on our farm. We strongly believe that is our right, as property owners and we will continue to fight for the motocross riders. We have learned that the motocross sport, desperately needs a place for its participants and we feel it is unfortunate that more and more tracks are being shut down. Thus, we will continue to fight for are right to keep our track open to the public by providing a place to ride in Rainier, Washington. However, one neighbor in particular has just recently started creating a problem by writing to the county complaining about traffic at first. Politely, I went to his house and asked if there was anything I could do to accommodate his objections. We then changed our entrance, to show are consideration. However, this action was not enough for the couple and it was clear by the statement, “we don’t want it, and we will do all we can to shut you down”. Realizing all have a say, we took it upon ourselves to personally go door to door and talk with the other neighbors. It was the support and clarifications of other neighbors that revealed the inaccuracy of statements provided by the objecting neighbor who works for the state and is desperately trying to stop free enterprise. Truly, it has been amazing and quite rewarding to hear and read the 99.9% of our neighbors who are supporting the Cadillac Ranch. The overwhelming amount of support from our neighbors and support from our town as a whole has been tremendous and for that we thank you. Nevertheless, we were issued a court date, and a temporary restraining order has been processed against the Cadillac Ranch. This procedure from the county is evidently normal; however, the county did want to be informed by the showing of support from the local and non-local parties. The county’s biggest question seemed to be, is it good for the community? Cadillac Ranch Motorsports Inc, strongly believes that it is good for our community for a variety of reasons; for example, our facility will give the choice for an active outdoor recreation, friends and family can spend quality time together, it will help get kids out of the house, and it has a high potential to eliminate boredom that could potentially stop bad decisions. Therefore, we at Cadillac Ranch Motorsports Inc. would appreciate a letter if you choose to support our reasons for having such a place for family and younger generation activities. We believe a support letter, will help provide and show the accuracy of our cause. Thank you and we will not give up the right to share our private property with YOU, please help save our farm!!!

Sincerely,

Cadillac Ranch Motorsports Inc. Star Paddock

P.S. WE ARE EXCEPTING LEGAL FEE DONATIONS, TO HELP FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!!!!

Isn't this just wonderful. A family with a farm is struggling to keep their 400 acre farm. The whole family is working to do so and Jeff and Kim Springer
( Jim Springer works for Washington State Labor and Industries) don't want families recreating near their property. When I get a copy of the legal document I will let you know what it says.
The 20 acre track is in the middle of the 400 acres. Noise is not reallly the issue because in the complaint document they list everything they possibly can.

ISN'T IT NICE TO KNOW THAT A STATE EMPLOYEE IS TRYING TO RUIN A FAMILY FARM AND THE SMALL BUSINESS THEY STARTED ON THEIR OWN PRIVATE PROPERTY.

OH THAT'S RIGHT WASHINGTON STATE HAS NO PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS. THEY TELL YOU EXACTLY AND VERY SPECIFICALLY WHAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DO WITH YOUR PROPERTY AND IN ADDITION, FORCE YOU TO PAY TAXES AT AN AMOUNT THEY DETERMINE.

The owners of Cadillac Ranch are suppose to have a hearing in a week or so. I will post the time and place and anyone who rides here must show their support with a letter of support sent to the Yelm address or man up and show up at the hearing be an American and stand up for freedom. Freedom to pursue happiness on PRIVATE PROPERTY.

Although I have not had the opportunity to enjoy the place that everyone is raving about, I pledge my support at the hearing.

WOW!! Seems like a flash-back of 40 years!!
Back in the early 70's we had small acreage out of Tigard Or,small little area called 6 - cornners. We sold MC's out of a really old Milking parlor, really neat set-up just some punk 20 something kid with wife and kid trying to make ends meet. Neighbor worked for Or. State was envious of guy across the street who did nothing except ride motoircycles all day long. He, neighbor went hidding in bushes to video,UPS deliverys, bike sales,me practicing along with other local riders, finally took me to court. RESULT,was a stop order by judge to keep me from doing our bussness on our land, moving bussness to downtown tigard. We lasted about two years there but the dream was gone. Hope we can all support C.R. even I have never been there!! JR

Enjoy Racing & Riding for Fun!

There is more to this discussion over on ThumperTalk including a request for exactly what the neighbor's complaint is...traffic, dust, noise?

The owners would surely be able to get a copy of that complaint from the county clerk or auditor's office.

Sorry BullTaco but "I" have no-idea the which-or-where you are talking about.

Please include Hyperlinks to "ThumperTalk" n-too "Neighbor's Complaint" thing so we all can converse.

"Cadillac ranch needs your help" is an important topic fer sure so let's be open. I bolted a day past last cause I was afraid of how I sounded here on EW's site but what I need now is "info" and "links".

JUST-HUCK-IT got me over Burnt-Ridges new step-up section last week and sounds like the same thing is needed here.

We need the "Cadillac-Ranches" of the world I say. Places to ride.

We really do.

Have you guys read this insanity, I hate how one person can ruin hundreds of people's hobbies. How would they feel if all the motocrossers ganged up and tried to ruin their hobbies just because for no apparent reason. I may see it different if they actually had some knowledge of the sport, but obviously they know nothing about motocross.
