All, I thought I would start this thread to bring forth any suggestions that could be passed on to the new operators of Pacific to help improve the Safety and Fun Factor of the facility. Hopefully they will read this or someone close to them could pass the info on...

I've yet to see any serious incident with the new track design (Pauls mishap excused) so for safety I give the place high marks. For fun I give it an ok. Add in the downhill leap and that goes way up. On top of that add personal raking (for large rocks) and I up the score plenty.

Running the big equipment is ok but eventually somebody's gotta do the werk. Raking ain't fun but it's got a purpose. Attention to the detail. Do it is my suggestion and more than that have the riders do it! Have'em walk the track and kick rocks. That's raking. Don't like what you see fix it. Kick rocks. Riders making good their own track and no complaints.

How to improve...Rake.

For instance... Today I was out at Pacific and it was hot so the water crews were in full force. About mid day a flagger was posted at the top of the uphill (to my delight since I was jumping it all morning) and as I approached the jump, the flagger made no indication that there was something there so I kept her pinned to clear the jump and WHAM... (or should I say splash)... I was completely blasted by the soaker from the Water Truck! I have never been hit by water that hard nor that quickly soaked in my life. Well I was in complete shock and couldn't see the fast approaching corner (since I now had water in my goggles mid air) and I crashed hard.. bending my bars, subframe, grips, and thrashing my plastics... I'm not really sure how I went down but it must have been a good show cause I had quite the audience... I wasn't hurt badly but it sure pissed me off!!! That is the most dangerous jump on the track in itself, not to mention making it a jump through water fall hit. If the flagger would have warned me, I would have much rather slowed down and ridden through it rather than jump, especially there...

Luckily, I came away unscathed (wish I could say the same about my bike) but I've been around long enough to know that situations like this is what gets tracks shut down (and to make it clear, I would never do that!).

My suggestion... close off sections for 5-10 mins to water some areas especially with the truck. This would allow for more even watering and avoid people getting soaked or potentially hurt by a water truck crossing the track or watering... or just do something different, especially when it starts to get crowded.

Well, to end my rant I wanted to say that I ride out there a lot (2-3 times a week lately) and I love what they've done to the place but I am pretty sure this situation could have...er... Should have been avoided.

Thanks for listening (I mean reading)

I second Workmans comment...!!! take a little time and kick/pull some of the biggens off... I try to pull over and kick some when it's not to crazy out there, but I will try to do it more often. Every bit helps!

I do agree that the flaggers need some sort of training. I think they just give em a flag and say here. I had to laugh on sunday, I laid the bike over in the turn prior to the step on step off. There was a rather , er uh shall we say large lady flagging on the step on step off, she came running down towards me, by the time she got half way there I was up and running.

Open up the back section to park again. I love parking in the south side of the track.

Make the pee-wee/ pit bike track better.

Everytime I go to the place it gets better and beter. Keep bringing in fresh dirt.

I'm not going to get into details of large or not to large but I think the same one came down to check on me. however, at that time I wasn't in the mood to be checked on and only had expletives to share as I scoped out the damage...

that was one of the other workers, he will never be in the water truck again. We are still pissed at him for doing that.

downhill jump is a good idea.

Update... (it keeps getting better)... not only did I bend my subframe... I sheared off the two bolts that hold it, up by the tank... ugggghhh!!!

Guess I better invest in a good easy out kit or I will be retapping my frame...

Invest in a couple of left hand drills they are worth it for times when the bolt is sheared flush.

Can you weld? if so weld a washer to the broken bolt then weld a nut on the washer and turn the bolt out works very good

Dang sounds bad.

Here's my put.

First glad to hear MX516 is ok, we need ya there dude, and second, I've gotta admit I blurt out a few choice words every now and then and from the sounds of it on the same jump (different story).

So, rpk here's my put (not having been there) based on the inputs so far. Keep the water guy and revise the placement of flaggers. Experienced for the critical zones less-experienced for the others.

Coming up the uphill there's plenty of things going through a riders mind so they don't (can't) be thinking about safety. For example the whole scenario plays out something like this.

Section #1 - Downhill
Sweep the corner before the dropdown but make the drop clean so as to not hit hard and waste or sacrifice needed energy for the uphill

Section #2 - Downhill braking bumps
Relax enough to let the forks take the small and then the big ones enough so as to not hit hard or bottom and waste or sacrifice needed energy for the uphill

Section #3 - Sweeper corner (downhill bottom - apex)
Rail the corner, choose a rut (or not) and sweep the bottom all the while minimizing back pain trauma and maximizing technique (smoothness)

Section #4 - Uphill (first half)
Establish final line choice (in-or-out) while looking (projecting) forward to top of hill aand establishing "SAFETY" margin (OK-TO-GO! or NOT!)

Section #5 Uphill (last half)
Solidify line choice, project line forward, finalize safety margin, finalize speed, set behavior pattern (what you do when you leap), focus, commit.

Section #6 - The leap
100% conditioned muscle response. Lock rear brake, Lean forward, Grab front brake, Relax arms, Anticipate impact (trust suspension), Slows on impact, Jump forward for corner, Clutch and downshift (one gear), Hit corner, Apply front tire turning roost, Twist throttle still clutching and exit.

That whole section is "the happening" place at Pacific, at least for me it is, and I look forward to it every time I go there. The only real problem is with drainage. It does not do that well down there in the hole and it's wet season coming up. So Pacific dudes (or dudettes) ya gotta figure a way to bleed off those rainy day blues down there. That and maybe stop watering the riders so much. They go fine on their own.

If I had two cents I'd add it here.

For us mortals it's like this:

Section #1 - Downhill
Oh geez thank God I made that double, now get straight before the top, I hope no one is in front of me

Section #2 - Downhill braking bumps
AAAAAAAAHHHH the bumps are as deep as my bike, oh crap, my butt is higher than my head, this aint good

Section #3 - Sweeper corner (downhill bottom - apex)
God am I level again, oh crap a rut, I hate ruts, it sure is muddy here

Section #4 - Uphill (first half)
Ok straighten out, go wide or inside? Is anyone next to me, now pin it

Section #5 Uphill (last half)
Oh no I'm swapping sideways, this is exactly what happened to the guy who wadded here last week, is anyone wrecked in the weeds

Section #6 - The leap
Crap that lip looks big, I bet if I hit it I'll have another butt higher than head incident, abort abort abort.

I will add that it's fun
