“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests”. - Patrick Henry - The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure. I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around. Congressional Reform Act of 2011 1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. Hawk

Rule #8. All members cannot have a law degree! Which is the license that gives you the ability to manipulate the system to their advantage.. No more proffesional legal liers in office..
I like #8. Hawk | ||||

why does it so often seem the U.S. government acts so unamerican?
No to #2... The american people should have the option to NOT participate in the ponsi scheme. Why do I have to pay for social security when I will never see a dime of what I have paid in??? If there ever was an example of how socialism doesnt work, look at social security, and medicare. As far as this contract goes... Its moot anyway... We vote these people into Office, so its up to all of us to vote somebody with some integrity in anyway. The fact is, there is too many people that want something for nothing, and it isnt just congress, its every person out there who thinks they are owed something just for being an american. This country wasnt founded on the principles of collective sufferage and the division of pain amongst every citizen, it was founded on the principle that the individual has the right of self determination, or to put it simply, the right to put in as much effort as they want, and accept what comes of it. Like I have been saying for a while... Its really a sad thing that we pay people (With such salaries and pensions) to make laws against us... Whatever happened to the concept of liberty???

a good start would be to kick every non usa citizen out who is milking the system. pretty bad when someone gets their medical paid for when they arent even a citizen here. dont even get me started
So just to play devils advocate here, who is going to pick the crops, clean the hotel rooms and do all the other low paying work no one wants to do? ------------------------------------ If you wanna live life on your own terms you Gotta be willing to - CRASH AND BURN! ...

The millions of people collecting unemployment...
I would like to see congress pay based on productivity only. You could figure in several economic factors GDP, unemployment etc etc to base thier pay on. Pay starts at ZERO and goes up as the economy does and no problem paying them well in a rip-roaring economy.
Problem with that, is there is too many congressmen (All of the democrats, and most of the republicans) that simply do not understand economics, Wouldnt work. What they need to do is limit the congressional session to 1 month a year, cut the salary in half, and make them reside in their home states, and fly into DC for the session.

Make welfare recipients do it...
uh huh sure ------------------------------------ If you wanna live life on your own terms you Gotta be willing to - CRASH AND BURN! ...

Had this conversation yesterday, refused to vote on proposed motion. Some conversation-and-clarification produced language this one could accept. Bottom line, What's-the-issue-and-drop-personal-references. Now we can talk.
Justin would be a mute if he had to drop the personal references. Oops, was that a personal reference???
They wouldn't do it. I work for a orchard and not a single non hispanic has ever come looking for work. I agree that those on welfare should be put to work doing something instead of milking the system. I wish that the goverment would test/observe those on welfare and those who were found capable of work be put to work. Some people, regardless of race, just want a free ride and our government makes it to easy for them.
Just curious how much does a welfare recipient make? Facts only. Would it be minimum wage? The problem with a federal jobs program, which is what is being proposed, is that the state would also have to cover the persons social security, state industrial insurance, medicare, perhaps unemployment, all those other business burdens that Ted is always complaining about. I do agree that those physically able to work should be put to work doing something to collect their money. unfortuneatly there are enough Dr.s willing to fill paper work out saying someone cannot work. ------------------------------------ If you wanna live life on your own terms you Gotta be willing to - CRASH AND BURN! ...
Paul, if they are on welfare, in a sense won't the state be 'covering' all those expenses anyway? First make all welfare recips pass drug tests like the rest of the employed, then we can talk about them doing a little work to earn their check...
I think you should take it one step further and say "native americans are the only ones who should get free medical"... They are the only true locals... Ive gone to the emergency room on your dime a few times sharkey so for that... thank you... Maybe you want me deported... I guess your moto finishes would be one place better if i was booted back to the land down under is that your real motivation? An interesting point Sharkey...

Auzzi come clean my toilets and we will call it good ------------------------------------ If you wanna live life on your own terms you Gotta be willing to - CRASH AND BURN! ...
